Room For Improvement

It’s been an extremely difficult start to the speedway season for both Danny King and Birmingham Brummies, one that Danny is working hard off track to improve as soon as he can. It all started in such promising fashion at Leicester on 9th March when Danny had a fairly quiet Ben Fund meeting which then came to life in the second half trophy races. He beat World Champion Tai Woffinden that afternoon before settling for a podium placed 3rd spot in the Final but has since struggled for any sort of speed or consistency. The Danny King we are all used to seeing has only surfaced in patches so far this season. An excellent performance at Ipswich in Morten Risager’s Testimonial meeting where he scorched to 13 points has been surrounded by indifferent low scores at tracks that have often been profitable for Danny such as Wolverhampton and Eastbourne. A good score in Birmingham’s home meeting with Coventry, seemed to indicate Danny had turned the corner but then another bad night at Lakeside last Friday has meant more hours in the workshop, more testing and hopefully better scores to follow in the next few meetings for the Brummies. Results so far:- Sunday 9th March Team GB 45 Rest of the World Select 39 (at Leicester) scored 5 (0,3,0,2) Sunday 9th March Bun Fund Bonanza (Individual 2nd Half) Won heat one and came 3rd in the Final Monday 17th March Banks’s Olympique Classic (at Wolverhampton) scored 5 (0,0,2,2,1) Wednesday 19th March Selco Classic Individual (at Birmingham) scored 5 (0,1,3,0,1) Saturday 22nd March Morten Risager’s Testimonial meeting (at Ipswich) scored 13 (2,2,3,3,3) Sunday 23rd March Elite Riders Championship (at Coventry) postponed – track unfit Monday 24th March Wolverhampton 58 Birmingham 35 EL scored 5 (1,1,2,1) Wednesday 26th March Birmingham v Belle Vue EL – Rained-off Friday 28th March Coventry v Birmingham EL postponed – track unfit Saturday 29th March Eastbourne 62 Birmingham 30 EL scored 7 (0,2,4,1) Wednesday 2nd April Birmingham 37 Lakeside 56 EL scored 2 (0,0,1,1) Wednesday 9th April Birmingham 46 Coventry 44 EL scored 11 (1,3,3,2,2) Friday 11th April Lakeside 69 Birmingham 21 EL scored 4 (1,1,0,1,1,0) Danny is next in action on Good Friday when the Brummies entertain King’s Lynn Stars in the Sky Sports Elite League. Danny will be confident of an upturn in fortunes after testing a new engine at Peterborough on Tuesday evening. We will also be updating this website with some 2014 photography as soon as it is available.
